This isn't exactly fandom, but I thought that there would be plenty of people here who are/would be interested in doing creative things to help people out.

This is suuuuuper short notice, since the deadline is May 15, but Fey Publishing and Solarwyrm Press are seeking submissions for an anthology to honor the over 200 girls who were kidnapped in Nigeria on April 14. Stories should be between 1,500 and 5,000 words; proceeds will go to the Not For Sale Campaign, "an organization that seeks to uncover and put a stop to human trafficking and slavery of all kinds."

I can't tell if authors get any money from this, but if you've got a story in mind and are charitably inclined, you can learn more details here.

Hi all. I'm trying to raise funds for a friend of mine in a bad situation. Known as

similiesslip, she is trying to extricate herself from a long-term marriage where her husband is emotionally and physically abusive. She wants to divorce and start a new life, but she has three children, and her husband has controlled the finances and tried to prevent her from holding a job. I am trying to raise funds to help her put a lawyer on retainer for her divorce and to help her to have some funds for leaving. I can vouch that this situation is completely legitimate, and that we are working to find her other resources (women's shelter, etc.) to ensure her safety and the safety of her little ones. As someone who was in a similar marriage for 8 years, I know that it can be very hard to break out of this cycle emotionally - it's even harder when you're tied up financially. Any help you can give would be appreciated - and if you can't give, please consider sharing this with others.

Did you know that an animal is abused every ten seconds in the United States alone? That is a truly frightening but very real statistic. Cruelty to animals is not right and it is not fair! Donation Incentives List.
Over winter break (that means this coming January 2013), my college sends a team of senior nursing students (that’s me!) on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic to provide medical aid to families in impoverished areas.

To prepare for our trip, we need to bring supplies! LOTS AND LOTS OF SUPPLIES. Last year, we treated 500 people every day, and to each family that visited us, we gave a small “health pack” of supplies—a large ziplock bag with soap, washcloth, toothbrush and toothpaste. On top of that, we need to bring our own medications to treat our patients: run-of-the-mill stuff like aspirin, tylenol, etc.

It’s honestly more than the few of us could gather working alone—so, dear reader, I’m asking for your help! Could you please help by donating?

My Fundable Account

I'm trying to get some money donated to help me move out, get my nail technician lisence. I finished school, but my supplies have been ruined and between the costs of re-buying them, the fees to take the test, security deposit, utilities, ect. I don't have enough money to move out right now. I really would like to take my daughter to a better area, and to get out of here and actually get started with my life.

The minimum fundable pledge is ten dollars, and I'd need 450 people to pledge that much. Less people, if more people pledge more. The way fundable works is you enter your credit card information, and if I don't meet my goal, they don't take your money.
